Roles & Responsibilities
Position Summary:
- We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional to join our team as Manager/Senior Manager – Energy Systems Modelling. This full-time role will focus on strengthening Vasudha Foundation’s capacity in energy and power sector analysis, energy system modelling, and policy research.
- The position is critical to our mission of supporting evidence-based decision-making on India’s low-carbon development and energy transition pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Implementation:
- Lead and expand research initiatives related to the energy and power sectors, including analysis of policies and regulatory frameworks.
- Enhance and apply energy system models such as TIMES-ETSAP, MESSAGEix, OSeMOSYS, CGEM, among others, including the use of open-source solvers.
- Develop low-carbon and Net Zero pathways (short-, medium-, and long-term) to inform decision-making across environmental, economic, and social dimensions.
- Build and assess future energy scenarios, including supply-demand projections and technology pathways.
- Support capacity-building efforts on climate mitigation strategies at both national and sub-national levels, particularly for government stakeholders.
- Contribute to Vasudha’s thought leadership by producing policy briefs, blogs, technical reports, and recommendations.
- Undertake any other assignments in the power and energy sector as designated by the senior management.
2. Donor Engagement and Fundraising:
- Support the conceptualisation of new project and programme areas, especially in energy modelling.
- Assist in engagement with philanthropic donors, bilateral and multilateral agencies for funding opportunities.
- Contribute to the development of project reports, grant documentation, and updates for funders.
3. Networking, Representation, and Outreach:
- Represent Vasudha Foundation at external meetings, conferences, and stakeholder events.
- Conduct field visits and engage with local communities as needed.
- Build collaborative relationships with energy system modellers and researchers across India and beyond.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in developing or using energy system models (e.g., TIMES-ETSAP, MESSAGEix, OSeMOSYS, CGEM).
- Master’s degree (or higher) in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, Matlab).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated interest and passion for energy systems and/or decarbonisation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in collaborative team environments.
